Bang-Cock

Leaving Bangkok today after a quick 2 day trip. Still miss the beach in Phuket. We spent one day in the city and one day up north in the ex-capitol of Thailand, Atthutya.
Bangkok itself is OK. Not sure if it was the shocking transition from quiet relaxing beach to the massive hot and stinky Asian city or what, but I was only sort of into it. Lots of things to see and do. For the most part, we stuck to the tourist stuff. Check the photo above of the Central Palace. The king of Thailand used to reside there. The detail and colors are so insane, you have to see them in person to really realize how incredible they actually are. I was totally in awe.
Day two, we took a trip up to Atthutya, the former capitol of Thailand dating back to the 1300's. In the 1500's-1600's, there was a million people living there and was a massive trade hub for the Europeans and all of SE Asia. Then some angry Mongols or something came in and burned it to the ground. The picture above shows what's left of a portion of the city. It was nice to get out of Bangkok and check out a bit more of the historical side of things, away from Tuk-Tuks and screaming Japanese tour groups.
More soon. Off to Hong Kong today to meet the boss man. 3 days there, then home on Thursday afternoon. My fitness is totally shot.
