2 more races last weekend
Saturday was the annual Redmond Derby Crit. It's the longest running bike race in the US at 66 years now. It's also one of my favorites. The course this year was a short, flat square. Pedal-corner-pedal-corner-pedal-corner-pedal about sums it up. No brakes needed (except to avoid the crashes). Long story short, we cleaned up! Won most of the cash primes (I got 2) and the overall (Chicken Alfredo again!) with big cahs payouts. The Broadmark/Hagens Berman boys on our team rode tough all race long as we were by far the most active bunch out there. I felt really strong and took a number of laps off the front, commencing with 5 of the last 6 at the very front stringing it out for our boys and keeping the sketchy bunching on the corners to a minimum.
About 15 hours later I was out in the middle of nowhere racing the Ravensdale-Cumberland road race. Yet another super fun course. It was a long 65 miles of rolling terrain and a 20% wall in the middle. Felt great here as well. Made lots of attempts to bridge or get off the front by myself, but other teams kept shutting it down. One of our guys eventually got up the road with 4 or 5 other guys and I worked my ass of to make sure it stayed and it did. The Garage and Ti Cycles guys must have hated me for jumping on wheels and messing with the chase. In the end, our guy ended up 3rd. Not too shabby. Rolled in with the bunch kick for something like 15th. Not really into mixing up a sprint for 12th place. I value my skin and bike more than that! It was BHZ's last race as a 3. We'll all miss having him around to police the idiots!
Did SIR last night and flatted. Ran back to the car and changed my tube and jumped back in. Lots of fat guys hanging on the back with the flat course. Was talking with JOD on the way home about how hard it was when you were at the front and how easy it was while sitting in at the back.
Got the LWV #1 circuit race this weekend. Should be fun. Don't miss out!! www.broadmarkcycling.com
